GROUNDING SKILLS

Before embarking on systematic processing of your history it is important to have skills to assist you in staying present as you go through the exercises. Grounding skills are essential for keeping you in the here and now and not allowing slippage into past trauma situations. Download the Little Book of Grounding Skills. Find five or six that you can practice and get comfortable doing them. Practice them three times a day for a few minutes when you are not stressed so that they become easy to do without having to over think them. You can use these skills anytime you begin to feel triggered or overwhelmed to keep yourself in an emotionally balanced state.
