Safety Plan Part A: For each of the skills in the Crisis Survival Strategies list three specific things that you can do within each area to use when in distress. Activities, Contributing, Comparisons, Emotions, Pushing away, Thoughts, Sensations

Safety Plan Part B: Put together a Self-Soothing Bag/Kit

Choose a bag or box­ any/size or shape. Fill it with items that will soothe you during times of distress. Try to choice 2 or 3 items for each sense. You will want a bag available wherever you tend to spend a lot of time such as work, home, car, etc.

Examples:

1. pictures, candle (vision)

2. music, books on tape, nature sounds (hearing)

3. favorite perfume, candles,lotions (smell)

4. fruit juice, hard candy, herbal tea (taste)

5. rock or stone, piece of jewelry, bubble bath (touch)

Please compose a list of these items and then actually fill your bag(s) with them.

Safety Plan Part C: For each area to IMPROVE THE MOMENT choose three skills you could use: Imagery, Meaning, Prayer, Relaxation, One thing at a time, Vacation, Encouragement

Safety Plan Part D: Compose a list of people and phone numbers that will be useful when you are in distress. Have a minimum of 6 numbers on your list.

Consider keeping following phone numbers READILY available:

  • Your best friend
  • The local crisis line
  • Your partner
  • Therapist
  • Doctor
  • Group facilitator
  • Safe Family Member
  • Neighbor
  • Local hospital
  • Adult Children
