WHAT TO DO ABOUT STRESS

Reducing the Load, Recovering Your Balance & Building Resilience

Stress is not simply something happening around us. It is what happens inside a human system when demands begin to exceed available resources.

Some stress is useful.

It mobilizes us.

Sharpens attention.

Helps us respond to challenges.

But chronic stress is different.

When demands continue without adequate recovery,

the body and mind begin paying the price.

We become more irritable.

Less patient.

More emotional.

Less focused.

Sleep suffers.

Our thinking narrows.

Small problems feel bigger.

Relationships become harder.

And eventually functioning under stress can begin to feel

so normal that we forget what being genuinely restored feels like.

What to Do About Stress helps you understand your

stress response and develop a practical plan for reducing

unnecessary stress, managing unavoidable stress, and

building enough recovery into your life that your system

is not continually running on empty.

The goal is not to create a stress-free life.

It is to become more skillful at deciding:

What can I change?
What do I need to manage?
What do I need to accept?
And what helps me recover?

What You’ll Practice

You will practice how to:

  • Identify your major sources of stress.
  • Recognize early physical, emotional, cognitive,
  • and behavioral signs of overload.
  • Distinguish acute stress from chronic stress.
  • Understand the body’s stress response.
  • Identify stressors you can eliminate or reduce.
  • Set boundaries around unnecessary demands.
  • Recognize overcommitment.
  • Prioritize competing responsibilities.
  • Use problem-solving skills for changeable stressors.
  • Practice acceptance when circumstances cannot presently be changed.
  • Reduce unnecessary stress created by catastrophizing and rumination.
  • Use breathing, grounding, movement, and sensory regulation.
  • Protect sleep, nourishment, movement, and physical recovery.
  • Create white space and downtime.
  • Recognize the role of technology and constant stimulation.
  • Develop healthy outlets for stress.
  • Build supportive connection.
  • Identify coping behaviors that create additional problems.
  • Recognize signs that professional or medical support may be appropriate.
  • Develop your own realistic stress-management plan.

Not All Stress Needs the Same Solution

Some stress says:

“Solve something.”

Some says:

“Set a boundary.”

Some says:

“Rest.”

Some says:

“Ask for help.”

Some says:

“Stop catastrophizing.”

Some says:

“There is nothing you can change here. Practice acceptance.”

Stress management becomes much more

effective when we match the skill to the problem.

Reduce the Load Before Trying to Become Better at Carrying It

People sometimes approach stress management as though

the answer is simply becoming better at tolerating an unreasonable life.

More breathing.

More meditation.

More resilience.

But sometimes the schedule itself is the problem.

Too many responsibilities.

Too little rest.

Poor boundaries.

Chronic overfunctioning.

Stress management sometimes requires asking:

“What needs to come off my plate?”

Recovery Is Part of Performance

The nervous system needs opportunities to return toward baseline.

Sleep.

Quiet.

Movement.

Nature.

Laughter.

Pleasure.

Connection.

Rest.

Recovery is not wasted time between productive periods.

It is part of the biological process that allows sustained functioning.

Watch for False Relief

Some coping strategies reduce distress

immediately while adding stress later.

Overspending.

Excessive eating or drinking.

Avoiding necessary tasks.

Working compulsively.

Endless scrolling.

Explosive anger.

Withdrawal.

The question is not merely:

“Does this make me feel better now?”

but:

“What does this strategy leave me with tomorrow?”

Who Is This Training For?

What to Do About Stress may be especially useful if you:

  • Feel chronically overwhelmed.
  • Have difficulty relaxing.
  • Are increasingly irritable or emotionally depleted.
  • Carry too many responsibilities.
  • Struggle to say no.
  • Cannot stop thinking about problems.
  • Feel guilty when you rest.
  • Notice stress affecting your sleep or relationships.

  • Want practical strategies rather than vague advice to “relax.”
  • Want to become more resilient without simply
  • tolerating an unsustainable life.

Stress management is not proving how much you can endure.

It is learning how to reduce what you can, respond skillfully

to what remains, and give your system enough recovery

to keep carrying the life you choose.

The Science. The Skills. The Daily Practices.
