THOUGHT TAMERS

"Just because we think it, doesn't make it true. We often over value our thinking and dismiss our feelings to quickly. Exploration of our thoughts as well as our feelings often leads to wiser decisions."

Create Better thinking

life In Progress

Helping you one skill at at time to improve your thought management.

At LIFE IN PROGRESS taming our thoughts is about learning how to:

-Mange your thoughts, not let them manage you

-Don;t take your thoughts to seriously

-Decision making best case comes from a sense of knowing not from thoughts alone

-Understand that thoughts can be distorted

Thought management is about taking charge of your life not about thinking yourself in or out of things. In reality,  thought management is about integrating our thoughts and feelings to a sense of knowing which guides us to our truth not the truth of others.

Reasons We Let Our Thought Run Our Lives

Culture

Our culture values thoughts over feeling.

Beliefs

We believe what we think even though they may not be true.

Problem Solving

Many problem solving methods are based in thinking..

Corrections

Often when we mess something up others will say to us “Use your Head”, implying that are thoughts have the answers that are correct.

Ego

Our egos love to convince us that we are right. It places us in a very limited place of options our thoughts.

Body Connection

When we are embroiled in our thoughts we are disconnected from our bodies and hence our feelings which provides much more data than thoughts alone. Thoughts do not contribute the wealth of data the body does thus limiting the information we have readily available for decision making.

Manage Your Thinking

When Thoughts No Longer Run the Show. We Can Train the Mind to Serve, Not Sabotage

Thoughts Allies or Enemies

Our ability to think and reason can be our greatest ally—or our most relentless adversary. Subsequently the thoughts that move through our minds have the power to liberate us, inspire us, and guide us forward. On the other hand, they can also trap us in fear, self-doubt, and automatic patterns that quietly shape our lives.

Thought Management

Learning to manage our thinking is not simple. Likewise even more challenging is learning not to believe everything we think, or to allow our thoughts to dictate our behavior without conscious choice.  Therefore,  this is one of the most essential skills of adult life.

Metacognition, Thoughts about Thought

The WIZMINs you’ll find here are designed to gently challenge your thinking and strengthen your capacity for metacognition—the ability to think about your thinking. This “second brain” is what we call the observing mind: the part of you that can step back, notice thoughts without becoming entangled in them, and respond from a wiser, more grounded, more adult self. This is sometimes referred to as having dual-awareness.

Allowing Thought to Choose with Intention

As this observing mind develops, it becomes an objective and compassionate witness to your inner world—helping you interrupt unhelpful thought patterns, regulate emotional reactions, and choose responses that align with your values rather than your impulses.

Thought Skills

Let these skills strengthen your internal thought-management system. Life in Progress is here to support you as you learn, practice, and refine these essential capacities. Explore the titles below to discover skills that are often required in adult life, yet rarely taught—and even more rarely named.

A Few Thoughts Not to Believe

"I'm an idiot!"

Negative self-statements are typically not True

"You always screw things up"

Blanketing statements are rarely true.

"This is a disaster."

Probably not a disaster perhaps a mess. As long as no one has died you will figure it out.

"I'm an awful person"

Probably not but even if you have doe some some awful things you are most likely not an awful person.

"This is the worse thing that could ever happen to me."

It feels like that in the moment but with time you will realize things could always be worse.

"I will never get over it."

Many things we do get over and grow through becoming better humans for the experience, and there are some experiences that will forever change us and the course of our life for better or worse, The problem is we do not have that answer in that moment.

"I am one big mistake"

You are not a mistake. You make mistakes like the rest of us join the club of 7 billion people, but that doesn't make you a literal mistake, you are simply human.

"I'm an idiot!" "You always screw things up" "This is a disaster." "I'm an awful person" "This is the worse thing that could ever happen to me." "I will never get over it." "I am one big mistake"

Reclaiming Your thoughts starts with asking yourself if the thought is true, an easy start to questioning your thinking.

  • -question every thought
  • -evaluate its’ reality
  • -determine if it is useful or true
  • -keep it or toss it depending on what you decide

SOMETIMES A+OUR THOUGHTS ARE NOT OUR OWN….Always QUESTION THEM
