DATING

What is it all about?
The tools you need for the Situations You Encounter
"Dating today can feel like crossing the Rocky Mountains in the 1700s—beautiful, uncertain, and full of unexpected challenges. The journey becomes far less treacherous when you know yourself, trust your instincts, and carry the right tools."
MARSHA FERRICK
Helping you one skill at at time to improve your interactions when dating.
At LIFE IN PROGRESS datings about learning how to::
• trust your sense of knowing
• seeking a romantic partner whose energy will be synergistic with yours
• maintaining your self-respect and esteem
Dating is about finding a lifetime friend that you love having sex with its not about one-night stands or ghosting people. In reality, dating is being curious about the other and determining if you agree, you are a good fit together. Can you both be more than you already are with each other (synergistic), not less.
Place your safety first, always.
Get a picture of a state ID. Send to a friend in case you go missing. Sounds like overkill but it isn’t.
Let someone know where you are at…who you are with and approx.. times you will leave and arrive home. Touch base with a phone call throughout the date if it goes more than an hour. Texts can be faked, VM are harder to fake
Trust Yourself and Leave…Carefully. Ask for an escort from the place you are at to your car or have them call you a ride.
If it doesn’t feel like a good fit let the person know. DO NOT GHOST people. It is immature and rude.Â
If the fit doesn’t feel ok for one person it is not okay for either of you. Respect the boundaries people set.Â
Do not lead people on. Be upfront. Are you dating multiple people What do you want in your relationship if it becomes a long term thing? Do you want children? Do you want an open relationship or a monogamous one? If those won’t work for you say so long and keep looking. There are 7 billion people in the world keep looking. Your person is out there.
Dating has always carried its share of uncertainty, vulnerability, and risk. What has changed is the landscape. Modern dating—shaped by apps, online profiles, shifting norms, and reduced community accountability—can feel confusing, overwhelming, and, at times, unsafe. For people of all genders and sexual preferences, the experience often brings a mix of hope, hesitation, and very real concerns about personal safety and emotional well-being.
We offer grounded guidance rather than fear. Here you’ll find practical suggestions for safer dating, including thoughtful precautions, date-tracking strategies, and ways to stay connected to your own intuition while getting to know someone new. We also address common dilemmas that arise when dating—or even when considering dating—such as pressure to move too quickly, uncertainty about trust, boundary confusion, and the challenge of balancing openness with self-protection.
At Life in Progress, we believe that safety and self-respect go hand in hand. Dating should never require you to abandon your instincts, compromise your values, or override your boundaries in order to be chosen. When you lead with awareness, clarity, and care for yourself, you create the conditions for healthier connections—whether a date becomes a relationship or simply a learning experience.
Our goal is not to tell you who or how to date, but to help you date with greater confidence, discernment, and support—so that curiosity can coexist with caution, and openness can be grounded in safety.
Courtship is the process of moving toward an engagement and marriage. Prior to courtship most people will date.
Dating is the focus of this WIZMIN moment. Dating has a potential sexual or romantic intention. People participate at numerous levels from hook-ups to searching for a life mate. Here we tackle dating today and the possibilities and dilemmas that arise.

Dismissive? Contemptuous? Critical? Respectful? Kind?
Are they truly listening and hearing you? Or are they distracted or change the subject when you are talking. Do they ask questions?Â
Although ideally you take turns listening/sharing with open curiosity on a date it doesn't always go like that. How do they manage difficult topics? Avoid? Have to be right? Judgmental?Â
What do they do? How long have they been doing it? Are they happy with what they do? What are their future plans? Are they looking for someone to take care of them and pay the bills?
Do they own any responsibility for what happened? What is the story they tell? Do they own their part or are they the victim in their story?
Does their description feel balanced and realistic? Not all negative or all Polly-anna pink perfect.Â
Is fun sitting on the couch with a beer watching the latest sports game? Playing 18 holes of golf on the weekend with friends? Do they love or hate animals? Children? Do they enjoy the outdoors or do the prefer inside activities? Are they glued to the computer-internet-social media? Do they drink? Do drugs? Do you have things in common or not?
I can respect your opinion while honoring my own sense of knowing

This is a number one safety rule along with meeting in a public place.
True. If someone is disrespectful to one person they can and will eventually be disrespectful to you.Â
False. Be an adult. Be honest and kind. State that you do not believe it is a good fit for you. No need to give reasons.
It is absolutely okay to check out the person you are dating. In fact I would recommend it. You can let them know you will be doing it. If they are upset and don’t want you to do it. Walk away, it is a BIG RED FLAG.
I might give them another chance. People are sometimes nervous on a first date and one way to manage that is to talk to much. However if this continues over several more dates and no interest has been cast in your direction then it is time to say “good-bye.”
